Resist the whole-house plan on day one. Pick the room you live in most and finish it properly — sound, lighting, control. One genuinely great room recruits the rest of the house on its own.

Trade up, don’t pile on

If the cabinet holds five boxes and a drawer of remotes, the resolution isn’t another box. Consolidate: one system, one interface, everything it replaced gone. Simplicity is the luxury.
